The Dow was back down on Thursday despite Microsoft’s best efforts.
The blue-chip index was off 161 points, or 0.4%, after opening higher. The S&P 500 was down 0.1%, while the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.1%.
A majority of Dow and S&P 500 members were falling. Microsoft, nursing a 4.2% gain after opening much higher, was supercharging the indexes due to both its large market cap and stock price. Meta, which is not in the Dow, was among the S&P’s top stocks with a gain of 12%.
