Dutch asset manager Robeco has announced the appointment of Anton Eser as the chief investment officer (CIO) and member of its executive committee.

Effective 1 September, Eser will succeed Mark van der Kroft, who is set to retire on 1 October after working as CIO since 2020 and having been with the company since 2000.

The incoming CIO brings over 25 years of experience in global financial markets.

In 2016, Eser was named the CIO at Legal & General Investment Management (LGIM), where he worked for 16 years.

During his time there, Eser was credited with playing a “pivotal role in transforming” LGIM from a UK-focused group into a global asset manager with more than $1.5tn in assets under management.

At LGIM, Eser led a 350-member team across index, active fixed income, global equities, and multi-asset solutions divisions.

Robeco said he also led LGIM’s efforts to integrate ESG considerations across various investment teams and was key in the creation of the Future World fund series.

Since 2021, Eser has been the CIO at 10X Investments, a fintech company that focuses on providing multi-asset solutions tailored to the South African market.

Earlier in his career, Eser focused on global fixed income markets, gaining experience both as an investor and a team leader.

He started his career in fixed income at Aegon UK before moving to LGIM in 2006, where he established and managed the firm’s global credit division.

In 2013, he was promoted to co-head of global fixed income, where he managed a diverse array of strategies and teams within the fixed income sector.

Robeco CEO Karin van Baardwijk said: “Anton brings a wealth of global experience and a proven track record in leading diverse investment strategies. His deep expertise aligns seamlessly with our strategic ambitions.

“We are excited about the fresh perspectives he will contribute to our investment platform and are confident he will play a key role in driving our continued growth. We warmly welcome Anton to Robeco and look forward to taking the company to the next level together.”

Robeco, an international asset management firm established in 1929, is headquartered in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and operates 15 offices globally.

As of 31 December 2024, Robeco managed €214bn in client assets.

Baardwijk added: “We are grateful to Mark for his outstanding leadership and dedication in various roles over the past decades.

“He has played an essential role in shaping Robeco’s investment philosophy and culture, and has been instrumental in building the successful company we are today. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement.”
