The number of open jobs in the U.S. fell by more than half a million in the last month of 2024, but other indicators of labor-market health stayed steady in December.
Job openings ended December at 7.6 million, down by 556,000 from a month earlier and a decline of 1.3 million from a year earlier, according to the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, published Tuesday by the Department of Labor.
The hiring rate, at 3.4%, and the quits rate, at 2%, were both constant from November.
